Current market trends show that many companies are now choosing to stay private longer or not go public at all. We also see publicly traded companies reverting back to a private ownership model. For investors, these trends highlight the importance of looking beyond public markets for long-term growth opportunities. Private market investments are an asset class consisting of debt or equity financing in companies that do not trade on public exchanges. These investments are an important category within the alternate investment universe. Historically, private equity was the domain of this asset class, but, in more recent years, private credit investments have gained popularity. Although investors are interested in private market investing, many are unfamiliar with the workings of this market and do not know how to gain exposure to these investments.
