The learning path leading to the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM®) designation provides the skills and knowledge that reflect today’s industry best practices, helping client-focused professionals align their financial education with career goals.
Each course is designed to build knowledge while progressing one’s career. To earn the CIM® designation, applicants must also have 2 years of relevant work experience.
The CIM® requires applicants to complete 1 of 2 approved learning paths, offered exclusively through the Canadian Securities Institute:
IMPORTANT: In addition to the Investment Management Techniques course, individuals seeking the Certificate in Advanced Investment Advice must complete one of the following: Professional Financial Planning Course or Personal Financial Planning® or Certified Financial Planning® designations. Please note the PFPC®, PFP® and CFP® are NOT required for the CIM® designation - only for the Certificate in Advanced Investment Advice.
NOTICE: 5-YEAR RULE
Individuals must apply for the designation within 5 years of successfully completing the Portfolio Management Techniques course. If you do not qualify for the designation within this 5-year period, you will be required to re-take only the Portfolio Management Techniques course.
