The path to the CIWM designation is intensive and takes several years to complete. Before enrolling in the CIWM program, you must already hold an approved financial planning designation or have completed the Wealth Management Essentials course.

The CIWM designation requires applicants to complete 3 courses (can be taken in any order) and the Strategic Wealth 360 assessment. Once the courses are successfully completed - and once you meet the 3-year work experience requirement you can apply to write the Strategic Wealth 360.

The CIWM learning path must be completed no more than 5 years before applying to write the Strategic Wealth 360 assessment. If an individual has exceeded the 5-year timeline, completion of 1 of the 3 courses on the learning path (or equivalent) will need to be re-taken.

Individuals must apply for the designation within 5 years of successfully completing the Strategic Wealth 360 assessment. If you do not qualify for the designation within this 5-year period, you will be required to re-take the Strategic Wealth 360 assessment (you will not be required to re-take the other courses along the learning path).

Individuals who have completed recognized wealth management courses from educational providers other than CSI can apply for course exemptions. Use the Exemption Request Form to apply for a course exemption.

Course providers that would like to have their programs assessed for approval as an educational route to the CIWM should contact CSI.
