This activity covers various wealth-accumulation plans and provides several practical strategies that can be offered to clients who are actively saving for retirement. You'll learn about payable benefits through federal retirement income programs, pension plan types, RRSPs, RRIFs, annuities, as well as investment options and planning opportunities.

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Outline the benefits available through two federal government pension programs
  • Identify and describe the two types of Registered Pension Plans and four other employer sponsored deferred compensation plans
  • Determine yearly RRSP contribution limits
  • Identify RRSP qualified and non-qualified investments as well as outline the consequences of holding non-qualified investments
  • State and describe the options available upon maturity of the death of the plan holder of an RRSP, pension plan, RRIF or annuity
  • Identify strategies that can be used to optimize planning objectives
