Once a registrant is in a position to both know – and demonstrate that they know – their client, the registrant is then in a position to evaluate a particular investment opportunity as to whether it is suitable for the client in question. In addition to the Know Your Client and suitability obligations, registrants are also subject to an additional and critical obligation, which is to fundamentally understand the products that are being sold to clients. This obligation is often referred to as the Know Your Product (KYP) obligation or, alternatively, the obligation to remain aware of and complete sufficient due diligence on products that are being offered to clients for purchase or sale. Upon completion of the course, you will gain a solid understanding of how Know Your Client, suitability, and Know Your Product obligations are related.
