Three paths are offered through CSI, one path through Mohawk College and two paths through Seneca College.

PFP ® REQUIREMENTS
Education : The PFP® requires applicants to complete an approved educational path
Certification Examination : Successfully write the Applied Financial Planning certification examination offered exclusively through the Canadian Securities Institute.
Work Experience : PFP® applicants must have at least 3 years of relevant work experience.
Code of Ethics : When applying for the PFP® you must commit to the PFP® Code of Ethics.
Trademarks : You are also required to agree to the terms of the PFP® Certification Mark Licence Agreement, which grants you the right to use the PFP® trademarks in your own marketing.
Application/Licence : The initial application fee is $275 and includes your licence fee for the year.and your commitment to the maintenance requirements such as continuing education.
To maintain your PFP® designation in good standing, you must:
- Complete a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education (CE) (per calendar year)
- Re-commit to the PFP® Code of Ethics (annually)
- Re-commit to the Certification Mark Licence Agreement (annually)
- Pay a licence fee of $275 (annually)

NOTICE: 5-YEAR RULE
The PFP® learning path must be completed no more than 5 years before enrolling to write the Applied Financial Planning (AFP) Certification Examination. If an individual has exceeded the 5-year timeline, the Financial Planning II course (or another approved course) must be taken to upgrade knowledge. (Note: If your enrolment in the AFP Certification Examination expires prior to your writing the examination(s), the 5 year rule is applied back to the original time of completion of your learning path.)
Advanced standing information for F.Pl. or CFP designation holders:
Individuals who hold the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) or F.Pl. designation granted by the Insitut québécois de planification financière (IQPF) may apply directly to write the AFP Certification Examination. Candidates will be required to provide proof of good standing of their qualification and must meet all other PFP® designation requirements.
Individuals who have completed recognized financial planning courses from educational providers other than CSI can apply for course exemptions. Use the Exemption Request Form to apply for a course exemption.
