Eligibility and Enrolment

 Are Prerequisites Required?

Most CSI courses require no prerequisites. However, there are a few exceptions – for more details on your specific course, please visit your course page for relevant information. For both the Investment Advisor Training Program (90-day) and the Investment Representative Training Program (30-day),you must have successfully completed the Canadian Securities Course (CSC). The Conduct and Practices Handbook Course (CPH), if not already taken, must be completed while enrolled in the 90-day Investment Advisor Training Program Course or in the 30-day Investment Representative Training Program Course.

Within the Financial Planning Program – Quebec, certain courses are prerequisites for other courses within the Program: Investment and Taxation Fundamentals (774) is a prerequisite for Investment and Tax Planning (782) and Insurance and Retirement (778) is required for Risk Management and Estate Planning (786). Within the Professional Banking Program, the FICB Integrative Project requires successful completion of the previous six PBP courses.

Some CSI products such as Check products and Seminars have co-requisites. You must be currently enrolled in a course to purchase the study tools for that course. For example, to enrol in the CSC Check, you have to be enrolled in the CSC course.

Study tools can be purchased at the same time as you enrol in the course or anytime during enrolment.

 Are There Experience Requirements?

CSI designations require candidates to have relative work experience either prior to completing the Certification Examination or prior to being awarded the Designation. During the designation application process, all candidates must provide a contact who will be required to verify work experience before the granting of the designation.

The FCSI experience requirement is the most demanding in the business - you need to have at least seven years of financial services industry experience within the past ten years to qualify for the FCSI.

 How to Enrol?

Enrolment in CSI courses is open to registrants worldwide and is accepted at any time throughout the year. Students may begin their studies immediately upon enrolling. Students who pay their registration fees by cheque must wait until fees are processed before they are able to begin their studies. Students may enrol online at www.csi.ca or by completing and returning a CSI Enrolment form by fax to: 1-866-535-1872. If you enrol by fax, be sure to include your payment for processing. Please note that all fees are taxable.

 How Long Will I Have Access to my Online Course?

Access to your online materials will close 2 weeks after successful course completion or course expiry (whichever comes first).  CSI recommends that you save a copy of your online materials prior to course completion.

Note: Online access to your course cannot be re-activated after your course has been moved to completion / expiry whichever comes first.

 Student ID Number

If you’ve forgotten your Student ID and password and haven’t registered an email address with CSI, send an email indicating that you lost your Student ID and password to customer_support@csi.ca and indicate your full name (including middle initials), former name (if applicable) and at least three of the following:

  • Month and year of birth
  • A list of CSI courses that you’ve completed along with the approximate dates of completion
  • Employer (at the time of your last CSI enrolment)
  • Mailing address (at the time of your last CSI enrolment)
  • Phone number (at the time of your last CSI enrolment)
  • E-mail address at work or/and home (at the time of your last CSI enrolment)

We will use this information to confirm your identity and will send you your Student ID and password by email within 24 hours.

 Payment Process

  • Payments accepted: Credit Card (VISA, MasterCard or American Express) or cheque payable to CSI
    Coming Soon—CSI will be introducing the option to make payment by 'Interac' as a result the option to make payment by personal cheque will be discontinued.
  • Organizations paying on behalf of employees can use their corporate account number and be invoiced
  • Payment must be made at the time of course registration or purchase of any CSI product or service
  • Registrations or purchases will not be processed without payment
  • All fees are taxable

 Are shipping and handling charges added to course fees?

Shipping and handling charges are added to all courses that include printed materials (textbooks, workbooks, etc.). Charges will also be added if you order textbooks or any other products that are shipped by courier. Shipping and handling charges vary according to the area where the items are being shipped.

 What’s The Enrolment Period?

Your course enrollment period could vary based on the course you are registered in. Once you are enrolled in a course, you can verify your enrollment and expiry dates by logging in to your student profile. Expiry dates always fall on the last day of the month in which your course expires. (Eastern Standard Time).

Please Note:

  • All courses with a proctored exam will have a 1 year enrolment period.
  • All online courses (such as courses part of the Certificate in Small Business Banking Program, MTI, IATP, or IRTP) attached to a program or standalone will have a 6 month enrolment period - This includes CE courses.

 Eligibility to Re-Enrol?

If you have completed a course in the past and would like to take the course again, you can re-enrol in the course at any time. However, if you’re enrolled in one of these courses and have attempted and failed an exam three times during your course enrolment, your enrolment will be terminated and you will need to re-enrol in the same course. You are eligible to re-enrol in the course six months from your last exam attempt.

You are eligible to enrol in any other CSI course for which you qualify while you are waiting for this period to expire.

Note: If your course is not listed here, you may re-enrol at any time.

 If I have enrolled in a course and do not want to complete it, can another person take my place?

Another person cannot take your place in the course. If you do not want to complete it, you can request a refund online or send a Course Cancellation Form to CSI by fax within two weeks of your enrolment date.

 Can I transfer my course enrolment to another person?

You cannot transfer your course enrolment to another person. If you do not want to complete your course, you can request a refund by sending a written request to CSI within two weeks of your enrolment date or process your request online.

 Can I transfer from one course to another course?

You cannot transfer from one course to another course. If you do not want to complete your course, you can request a refund by sending a written request to CSI within two weeks of your enrolment date or process your request online.

 Cancellation Policy for CSI Courses and Seminars:

Refunds are available for CSI courses and seminars, however certain rules apply.

 I enrolled in a seminar and decided that I don’t want to attend. Can another person take my place?

With the exception of the Effective Management Seminar, another person cannot take your place. If you do not want to attend your seminar, you can request a refund by sending a written request to CSI within two weeks of your registration date.  Can I change the start date of my seminar?

You can transfer into a seminar that has a different start date by sending a transfer request form and a $50* plus applicable taxes transfer fee to CSI.** This notice must be received by CSI at least two weeks before the first day of your original seminar. **As a result of extensive pre-planning required for the Effective Management Seminar, you cannot change your enrolment date in this seminar. However, if you are unable to attend, your firm may send a substitute in your place.

 Will I get my money back if CSI cancels a seminar?

CSI reserves the right to cancel a seminar at its discretion. If you are enrolled in a seminar that is cancelled by CSI, you will be offered a full refund or, where available, the choice of an alternate seminar date.

Are There Any Exceptions For Seminars?

Enrolment fees for the Effective Management Seminar are not refundable and your enrolment date may not be changed. You or your firm may substitute an alternate person to take your place if you are unable to attend on your chosen date.
