Helping clients plan for a successful retirement is an important focus for advisors, given the sheer number of Canadians who will be retired in the future. But retirement planning goes beyond concerns about money. It is the process by which one meets one’s desired retirement lifestyle. In the Retirement Planning course, we will focus on opportunities to minimize the impact of taxation on the client. In addition to tax-efficient investment vehicles, the course considers life transitions, family issues, health concerns, and emotional issues, all with the aim of helping clients move beyond their current situation toward one that is closer to how they envision their future.

The course is one of seven within the Advanced Mutual Fund Advice (AMFA) program, which is the learning path required to obtain the Certificate in Mutual Fund Advice. It is also part of the education required for the Personal Financial Planner (PFP®) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designations.

What skills will you develop?

The Retirement Planning (REPL) course is designed to help you confidently deliver the right advice to your clients based on their individual needs. Completing this course will also help you:

  • Develop a holistic approach to the retirement planning process
  • Increase your knowledge of retirement planning vehicles
  • Gain a better understanding of employer-sponsored registered pension plans

Who should enrol?

This course is designed for mutual fund advisors who want to build flexibility into their financial planning careers. It is suitable for entry-level professionals who may already have their mutual fund license, including both junior mutual fund dealing representatives and more senior reps who want to transition from a transaction-based business to one that is focused on providing financial advice.
