What is the Relationship Manager’s role?

The Relationship Manager’s job is similar to that of Investment Advisors, however, Investment Counselors generally deal with clients who have very high net worth, or work with smaller institutional investors. They work directly with clients to provide advice on and implement a portfolio strategy plan which, in turn, is managed by a Portfolio Manager. Portfolio Management Relationship Managers are generally employed by investment management firms.

What are the responsibilities for this role?

  • Acting as the firm’s main contact with the client, managing the business relationship
  • Assessing needs and advise clients on asset allocation, managed product selection, and economic and market conditions
  • Helping clients evaluate performance of their portfolio in context with market trends and conditions
